Preservation Handcrafted Foods is the creation of Chef Ryan Harrison, but the business would not be possible without the support of all of our family members. If you’ve met us at a farmers market, you’ve likely encountered mom – aka “Jersey Gina” – and/or any number of her three kids: Donald, Ryan & Lauren. Read below if you’d like to know a bit more about who we are.
Chef Ryan is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. He competed on Bravo’s Recipe for Deception, where he defeated his opponent on Episode 9, “We Can Pickle That.” He has worked under Chef John Besch in New Orleans, LA, Chef Michael Mina, Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli, and Chef Michael Shikani in Miami, and Chef Jason Chichonski in Philadelphia.
Jersey Gina has been an avid gardener and cook for the past several decades. Over the course of many summers, she perfected the brine and methods we use today to make our Garlic Dills and Bread & Butters. She also happens to be a tireless and endlessly inventive chocolatier. You can find her famous pickles every day in our store, and be sure to come check out our selection of her hand-made chocolates in the cooler months.
Donald joined Preservation Handcrafted Foods as manager in the summer of 2017. A former English professor at Drexel University, he is also a writer and professional pianist based in Philadelphia. (In fact, if you’d like a little piano to go with your pickles, check out DonaldPlaysPiano.com!)
